The Indian Ocean is brewing up strong swells for Indo, and the crew at @swellnet are seeing plenty of potential later next week and into the weekend that could see both the Trials and the Main Event run for the Rip Curl Cup.
The decision to run the Women's Trials proved to be the right one, with Swellnet forecaster Craig Brokensha's prediction unfolding almost exactly as forecast. A powerful south-southwest groundswell generated by a storm-force polar low peaked through the middle of the day before the afternoon tide began to fall, transforming Padang Padang into the world-class barrel it is renowned for.
To give our local surfers the fairest possible shot at qualifying, we've extended the Men's Trials waiting period. If a two-day swell lines up, we'll run the Trials straight into the Main Event, giving four local surfers the chance to earn their place alongside the world's best.
The Main Event remains our priority. If conditions only allow for a one-day swell, we'll announce the four additional men's wildcards on our social channels before the Main Event.
