Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang 2025 Is On High Alert

The Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang has been put on high alert for a potential run this coming Wednesday the 6th of August.
A promising large SSW groundswell is set to arrive Tuesday afternoon, peaking Wednesday morning. With a dropping tide from 7:30am onwards, it’s looking likely that we will have epic conditions with clean offshore winds all day Wednesday to showcase some of Indonesia and the world’s best tube riders.
The heat draw features some exciting match ups that aren’t to be missed. Round 1 Heat 3 will see former event finalist Mason Ho, up against Californian Tosh Tudor, Mentawai’s Dylan Wilcoxen, and local boy Westen Hirst. With Wilcoxen fresh of his win at the Nias Pro, and Hirst currently sitting as the No. 1 ranked Indonesian surfer on the QS, the next generation of Indonesian surfing will be going head to head with two highly accomplished international tube riders.
A Celebration of Tradition and Surf Culture: Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang Opening Ceremony
The official waiting period for the Rip Curl Cup Padang Padang kicked off yesterday with the highly anticipated Opening Ceremony at Padang Padang Beach.
A large crowd gathered to welcome in the revered event, bearing witness to a vibrant celebration of Balinese culture, tradition, and surf culture.
The ceremony opened with the announcement of Sungai Watch as the event’s official environmental partner, a Bali-based non-profit dedicated to tackling plastic pollution in Indonesian rivers and protecting the island’s oceans. As part of the partnership, Rip Curl will donate 2% of all Rip Curl Padang Padang merchandise sales to Sungai Watch, helping remove 1kg of plastic from Indonesian waterways.
Next up was the eagerly awaited reveal of the 2025 event invitees. Three-time event champion Mega Semadhi introduced the Indonesian lineup, highlighting standout competitors and rising local talent. First-time invitee Tosh Tudor then took the stage to present the international roster, offering the audience their first glimpse of the world-class surfers set to take on this formidable wave.
The celebration continued with a special performance by Landon McNamara, event invitee and winner of the 2024 Rip Curl Eddie Aikau Invitational, who brought his signature Hawaiian sound to the crowd.
As per tradition, the night concluded with the iconic Kecak dance, a traditional Balinese performance that combines rhythmic chanting, movement, and storytelling. This tradition underscored the event’s deep cultural roots and highlighted its importance beyond just surfing.
Adding to the sense of legacy, Rip Curl founder Doug “Claw” Warbrick was also in attendance, reinforcing the event’s longstanding history and its significance in the global surf community.
“I’m delighted to see a lot of the Rip Curl family here from around the world, but also the wider surfing family,” said Claw. “There’s a certain comradery and spirit that exists between all surfers. It’s pretty unique and spiritual down here [at Padang Padang]. It’s a really special place and I’m sure we’ll have a special event.”
